HOW-TO Directions - In 3 Easy Knots
English - español - Français
Fold tinsel in half. Hold 3" inches from fold, creating a 'loop' and a 'tail'.

With opposite hand, reach into the tinsel loop and pull the 'tail' through the loop.

You now have a slip knot.

Ahora tiene un nudo corredizo.

Vous avez à présent un nœud coulant.
Slide the slip knot on to 2-3 strands of hair. (DO NOT tie to more than 4 hairs, or the knot will not hold) Pull slip knot tight at the base of the hair shaft.

Take both ends of the Hair Flairs strands in one hand and the hair in your other hand and tie them together. The hair and the Flair get knotted together. Once the knot is at the base of the hair shaft, pull knot tight. Now, drop the hair.

Pick up each end of the Hair Flairs strands, one in each hand and pull gently in opposite directions until tight and secure. The knot should be at the base of the hair and will flatten out and lock on to the hair.

Tie a simple knot using each end of the Hair Flairs strands.

Once knot is secure, pull each end gently in opposite directions until tight and secure. The knot should be at the base of the hair shaft, tight, small, and flatten out smoothly into the hair. Trim Hair Flairs ends to length of hair.

TIP 1: Tying into wet hair can be easier and create tighter knots.

TIP 2: Place knot underneath a few hairs so the hair tinsel ‘peeks’ through and flows into hairstyle.

TIP 3: Make sure the knot is tied to the base of the hair, against the scalp. If it is tied incorrectly an inch away from the scalp, it could be easily brushed or pulled out.

TO REMOVE: Hold the knot between fingernails, hold the hair it is tied to securely, and pull gently along the strands of hair until it comes out. The root of the hair may come out as well depending on tight your knot is and how hard you pull on it.

If you want to wear a few strands for ONE NIGHT ONLY, for a party, or special occasion: We recommend tying the first knot only. Do not double-knot the strand in. If you tie the first knot only, you can remove them by holding the knot between your fingersnails and sliding them off the hair it is tied to. If you double-knot the strands, they will stay in your hair until your hair naturally falls out on it's own.
TROUBLESHOOTING:

If you tie in the Hair Flairs and it slides off the hair strands easily, you did not keep the slip knot secure and tight before you tied the second knot. To correct: When the slip knot is at the base of the hair, take the ends of the Hair Flairs and pull in opposite directions so that the slip knot is SNUG and tight around the hair shaft. It should lock on to the hair strands. Do not pull too tight and stretch the strand out, you will get the feel for it with practice.

If you tie in the Hair Flairs in 1 inch away from the scalp, rather than at the base of the hair, it doesn't look right and can easily be pulled out when brushing. You did not keep the slip knot tight at the base of the hair shaft before tying the second knot in.

PROBLEMS?

Hair Flairs should last weeks in healthy hair. The "newer" the hair, the longer they will last. On average, everyone naturally sheds approximately 100 hairs a day. Installing Hair Flairs should not damage or cause stress to healthy hair.

However, Hair Flairs are not for everyone. Individuals with certain health issues, poor nutrition, or taking certain medications may suffer from excessive hair loss because their hair follicles are not tightly rooted. Hair Flairs may not last long if someone suffers from excessive hair loss. Also, there maybe individuals with over-processed, dry, brittle hair that easily breaks. In cases where an individual's scalp or hair is compromised, we recommend finding an alternative method such as attaching Hair Flairs to small hair clips or bobby pins and inserting into hair.

You should be creative when installing Hair Flairs Reflective Hair HighlightsTM

You can spread them apart or place them close together for a more obvious statement. To avoid having a visible knot, place the Highlight under a couple of hairs. However, avoid placing them underneath too many strands of hair where their beauty will be lost.

Your creativity has no limits when using Hair Flairs Reflective Hair Highlights. You can design your own unique look with a few strands.

Learning to tie-in Hair Flairs takes a little bit of skill, so take your time, and practice, practice, practice! You will find a technique that works best for you.

We find that working with wet hair makes the hair easier to work with and the knot stay in longer. Installing in dry or wet hair is up to the individual stylist. If you don't want to install in wet hair, you can always keep a small spray bottle of water to spray and dampen the hair where you are applying Hair Flairs. It helps smooth out your work area and keep the fly-away hairs from tangling into your knot. Do what works best for you.

CAN YOU INSTALL YOURSELF IN YOUR OWN HAIR?

A practiced professional may be able to install Hair Flairs into their own head of hair, although it is extremely difficult, almost impossible to do alone. It normally requires a second set of hands. We recommend a trained hair stylist install Hair Flairs, although anyone can learn the technique. When properly tied Hair Flairs can last between 2 - 6 weeks in hair, although we have clients whose Hair Flairs have lasted months!!! If your current stylist does not offer Hair Flairs, ask them to check us out.

INSTALLATION TIPS

For a subtle look:

Less is more. Vary the distance between the reflective hair highlight strands for a more natural look. Use 5-10 strands total per head.

For a daring bold look:

More is more! Use at least 10-15 strands or more per head. It's up to you.

Placement:

Place on top of hair for a dramatic look… or tie the Hair Flairs strand underneath a couple strands of hair so that it peeks out. The Hair Flairs will show a hint of reflection when you move. This will hide the knot and give you a subtle look. Perfect for the professional working in an office!
